HARDWARE: Trackside Transponders give you the power to provide perfect scoring!!!

Instantaneous Race Results!
The hardware for the Trackside timing system is simple to set up.  The following hardware units make up the scoring system.

  • Decoder

  • Activator

  • Loop

  • Transponder

Decoder
The Decoder is the part of the system which captures the signal from the transponder as it passes.  It captures a timestamp when the transponder passes and then sends the message to the Trackside software.  The Decoder is connected to a power source, to the Activator and to the computer which is running the scoring software.  You must maintain power to the decoder at all times.  We recommend using a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) for backup power so you never have power failure.

Activator
The Activator acts as a middleman between the Loop and the Decoder.  It is a little black box which gets connected to a power source and to the Decoder with cables.  A small wire is connected to the Loop to act as the "antenna" for the system.  The Activator provides power to the Loop so that when a transponder first comes into range, it may be activated to put out a signal so it may be recognized.  A message is then sent from the Loop through the Activator to the Decoder and then on to the scoring PC.  This whole process is instantaneous and can capture more transponders passing than any motocross race can possibly create.

Loop
You can consider the Loop to be the antenna of the system.  It is made up a cable similar to a 12 gauge wire.  This wire is connected to the wires coming out of the Activator.  It is called a Loop because that is the manner in which it is set up.  It is intended to be placed in the ground at the finish line.  The Loop will be buried in conduit between 8 to 12 inches deep so that the racer has to pass over the cable in two places which are 18 inches apart.  Once the racer passes the second part of the Loop, the Transponder is recognized as having passed.

Transponder
The Transponder is worn by the racer around his ankle outside the boot.  A large elastic strap is provided with each Transponder for easy mounting.  See more detail about the transponders at the Transponder page.
